Critical Theory
According to Wikipedia, Critical Theory is defined as the examination and critique of society and literature, drawing knowledge across social science and humanities disciplines. On the same article, Critical theory was known with two meanings. Its first meaning was coined by Max Horkheimer in his essay “Traditional and Critical Theory†written in 1937. He termed Critical Theory as a social theory oriented towards the change of society as a whole. Nowadays, critical theory is more concerned with its second meaning which is a theory in literary criticism. It emphasises more on the analysis and understanding of literature. To create less confusion, critical theory is more popularly judged as the combination of the two meanings. Despite the differences, scholars recognise that critiquing is still involved to pursue language and construction overlap.
