The education of a performance artist can be formal such as in dance schools or also informal such as joining artists groups. The important personal quality of a performance artist is dedication to his or her craft. A true artist never stops learning and perfecting his craft. The education therefore is a life-long endeavour whether it is dancing, singing, acting or other type of performing arts. Many aspiring artists try to secure for themselves training under a famous practitioner and learn everything from that mentor. The skills of a master are usually handed down or taught only to a favourite protégé whom the master trainer considers as deserving.
