Historical Reenactment

Perhaps the most re-enacted historical events are the famous deciding battles of the American Revolution and the American Civil War. Many descendants of patriots on both sides take great pains to re-enact these battles in exacting detail such as the correct uniforms and the insignias worn by their various ranks. Even battlefields are religiously prepared and the proper placement of actual cannons and artillery are depicted. These re-enactments do not really require great acting skills except maybe for some key actors depicting important players in the battle. A cast of several hundreds or perhaps a thousand has many amateurs in it but the whole purpose of the re-enactments is to re-create a “living history” for educational and entertainment purposes for the general public. It is role playing in a historical context.
