Puppetry

This is one of the oldest art forms. It is done in a theatre and the performance makes use of puppets or inanimate objects that are made animated. The sheer magic of puppetry is the main reason for its entertainment value especially in carnivals and other festive events. It is also used in connection with some religious rituals and usually has an interesting story to tell the audience. Through his puppets, the puppeteer can make his characters say things and do things which no human in his right sense would dare say or do. The outrageous, the ridiculous, the absurd, the impossible and even the sacrilegious can be done by a puppet since the puppet and not the puppeteer, is the focus of attention. Of course, there are certain limits to that aspect and the puppeteer has to be highly imaginative and artistic that gives a puppet the reason for its very existence. Perhaps the most beloved and well-known puppets is Pinocchio whose nose grows longer every time he tells a lie. Children love him.
