The Complex World of Art
What is art? It is too broad and ambiguous a concept that definitions could differ from one subjective idea to another. It encompasses a wide scope involving both the creative and affective aspects of the human nature. It thus encompasses the famous forms of creative, and often recreational, human activities such as paintings, music, film, literature, sculpture, and day-to-day manoeuvres. Art, according to its established meaning, may refer to a special kind of production process driven by personal views, emotions, and techniques, bringing about a tangible ending. It may also be used to refer to the end-product, which could either be a musical piece, a painting on canvas, a mural, etc., capable of stimulating the senses and provoking the emotions and stirring the imagination.
Art would always involve a deliberate combination of elements. But as what most philosophers say, there is actually no specific formula for achieving a certain result. They view art as a mode of expression allowing an artist to explore the boundaries of the human capacity to achieve beauty and to portray certain truths with freedom. The inclination for art is inherent in every human being roaming this diverse planet. If we step back in time, we can see the significance of arts in the human civilization and history. For art does not only communicate the artist’s identity, but also conveys truths about the self, the nature, events, emotions, and what-not. It is true that to be able to survive, we need to understand about the world and about each other. One way or another, art makes understanding an easier task.
